Country farm and business management is the process of planning all aspects of an agricultural enterprise in order to maximize income and profit. It is a challenging task that requires a range of technical, economic and human conceptual and analytical skills. The challenge is that the outcome of any action is dependent on the conditions that can’t be predicted or guaranteed and requires a certain amount of flexibility in the face uncertainty.

Farming and business management are closely linked and a successful farmer needs to consider both sides of the business equation. For instance, he or she must be able to plan production based on the market price and climatic conditions while at time being a good financial manager, planning how to raise money for the business in the near future and monitoring progress towards the goals that are set.

It is essential that the owner earns enough income from outside sources to cover operating expenses and to provide a safety net in case of unexpected incidents or emergencies. A large number of public facilities are required to accommodate customers as well as visitors (e.g. Parking signage, education and customer service are all crucial.

Many ranches and farms provide an educational experience to visitors. This includes information about the production of fiber and food, land management and the past of farming. This can be a great option to keep and attract customers and is usually appreciated by the general public. It may be possible to obtain funding from a local or state agency to help cover the cost of education.
